San Antonio

San Antonio, Texas is a vibrant place to live, and the eighth largest city in America. This is a town that combines a deep sense of history and culture, while providing a haven of entertainment, food and music. The town has a unique feel, blending the cultures that created the region. So while there is plenty of Texas Cowboy Culture, San Antonio also offers a blend of Native American, Mexican, and African American into the hospitable Deep South mix. So strong is the pull of this city that over twenty million visitors come here each year to discover this magnificent city.

San Antonio currently supports a population of some 1.2 million residents, a population increase of nearly five percent since the year 2000. The average age of a San Antonio resident is thirty two years old, with an annual household income of approximately $36,000 per year. The majority of residents here, around forty percent, are employed in the service industry. Professional and managerial positions take the second slot, together employing nearly thirty percent of locals. Sales comes in third, with just over ten percent of San Antonio residents working in this field.

Like many other parts of the country, homes in this region have proven to be a solid investment for their owners. Recent real estate reports show that the average price of a home in the area is currently $165,000 for a three-bedroom home. Of the recent transactions in San Antonio, nearly forty percent were purchases of two-bedroom homes.

Within San Antonio, two major points of interest drive traffic into town. The first is the famous Alamo, now a museum and historical point of interest. The Alamo reminds locals of the city's founding in 1718 by Father Antonio Olivares who established the mission here. The site became a part of history when a mere 189 defenders tried to hold the mission from over 4,000 Mexican troops. Later, "Remember the Alamo" became the rallying cry of the Texan revolution against Mexico. San Antonio

The more modern addition to San Antonio's landscape is a spot that draws both locals and tourists alike. Centered in the downtown area, yet twenty feet below street level is the River Walk area of town. Lined with cobblestone and flagstone pathways along either side of the San Antonio River, the River Walk weaves its way through the heart of the downtown business district. It is here that you will find some of the most unique of the town's offerings. From sidewalk cafes, nightclubs, and high-rise hotels to quiet, park-like stretches, the River Walk is a microcosm of San Antonio itself.

The city also plays host to a variety of festivals, fairs and events throughout the year, many of which are reflective of the diversity of residents here. The Tejano Conjunto Festival in May draws some of the top Tejano music starts from both the United States and Mexico. Oktoberfest is a tribute to the early German residents of the region. Additionally, residents here can choose to attend some of the area's top attractions at any time of the year. The Botanical Gardens, Market Square, Sea World, Splashtown Water Park, and Six Flags Fiesta Texas are all popular destinations. Locals can also attend professional sports events such as the NBA Spurs, WNBA Starzz, or the Minor League Baseball Missions.

San Antonio offers its residents the best of southern hospitality and charm. But it is also a vibrant, world-class city with attractions that drawn tens of millions to its borders each year.
